Factors that should be the ones who decide for yourself:

- Ease of use for a beginner
- All the features you want included
- Notes for existing users
The first three factors can be easily found by checking one or two review sites more reliable camera. Two excellent sources are dpreview.com and imaging-resource. Com.
The last factor can be verified by going to places where cameras are sold, such as Amazon, B & H Photo or Adorama, where there are exams by those who bought the cameras. Camera buyers are extremely honest in their opinions. After all, what they have to win by making a false review?
How does the Nikon D5000 entry level DSLR stack up?
First, the quality Image is excellent. DPReview gave its highest rating for the Nikon D5000 – "Highly Recommended" – with this single recommendation. You must take your photos RAW rather than JPEG mode. Because the camera software in-process images without sharpening as much as Canon's Rebel T1i. For average viewer, this is not obvious, but it is underlined. Suffice it to say that the Nikon D5000 produces a quality image excellent.
Secondly, the usability of the D5000 is also excellent. The camera controls are well placed and easy to navigate. They are fairly intuitive, even for a beginner DSLR user.
The third factor could be the deciding one. Nikon has included two very desirable features not found on the cheaper Nikon D3000 or Canon Rebel Xti. The first HD video is similar to most professional Nikon models. That said, if you buy a camera waiting for the same video capabilities as a dedicated camcorder, you'll need to look elsewhere. But quality Video of the D5000 is excellent compared to other digital SLRs.
Finally, verification of the user rating on Nikon D5000 on Amazon shows that Consumers are very impressed with their purchase. They gave the D5000 an average rating of 4.13 out of 5. And at B & H Photo, users are equally satisfied their purchase. They noted the D5000 at 4.25 5. (These ratings would actually be higher except it was a reminder of the original due to a defective chip, but this has been resolved.)
